Are conditioners really necessary? Here’s how it gives you smooth, nourished hair

Scalp care isn’t all that different from skin care – both require the right routine to be kept happy and healthy! Conditioner is often thought of as a “nice-to-have”, but it’s actually a vital step in a hair care routine that helps to nourish your hair and keep it smooth and strong.

Read on as we share why conditioners deserve a permanent spot in your daily hair care routine and how it helps to keep your hair well-nourished!

What is a hair conditioner?

Conditioners often follow shampoo as a second step to nourish and condition the hair. A shampoo helps to remove any dead skin cells or sweat, while a conditioner helps to repair, smoothen, protect and reduce frizz.

Conditioners also form a protective layer to protect the scalp against sun, environmental and heat damage.

Why should you use a hair conditioner?

When paired with a good shampoo, a hair conditioner can help to:

  • Restore natural hair oils that are essential for hair growth
  • Form a protective layer on the hair follicles for long-lasting shine and volume
  • Replenish moisture back to the hair
  • Protect against heat damage caused by blow dryers and styling tools
Using shampoo together with conditioner can achieve the best care results

How often should you use hair conditioner?

Many often skip the conditioner step to save time, but for those with frizzy or dry hair, it can be a transformative step to achieving healthier-looking hair.

Ideally, conditioner should be applied after shampooing every time. After cleansing the dirt off scalp and hair strands with a shampoo, use a conditioner to lock in moisture. Both of these products are absolutely essential in a hair care routine! Pairing both of them together is the best way to achieve smooth, luscious locks.

A step-by-step guide to applying Botanical Bloom Woods Hair Conditioner

It may seem as simple as applying it on your hair, waiting for a few minutes and rinsing it off. But to really maximise the benefits and allow the conditioner to work its magic, we recommend following these few steps:

Step 1: After shampoo, gently squeeze out the excess water from your hair strands. This helps to ensure that your hair will be evenly coated with the conditioner.

Step 2: Pump an appropriate amount of conditioner on your palm. For those with thin hair, consider using a smaller dose.

Step 4: Massage the conditioner into your hair strands gently. Ensure that every strand is coated and use your fingers to slowly detangle to allow better nutrient absorption.

Step 5: Leave it on for 3 minutes and let the conditioner work its magic.

Step 6: Rinse it off. Use gentle, light strokes to wash off the excess conditioner and ensure that there is no residue.

Tip!

Using cold water to wash your hair can help to close up the hair follicles and increase hair shine. If your hair feels a little greasy, it could be due to residual conditioner that has not been washed off properly. Continue rinsing your hair with cold water until your hair is fully clean.
